we the Claretians of Northeast India deeply morn the passing away of Most Rev. Dominic Jala SDB,DD, Arch Bishop of Shillong, Meghalaya, India. The Claretian Missionaries of North east India celebrated a requiem Mass on 15 October 2019 at Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, Shillong for the departed soul of our beloved Bishop. We have lost a good Shepherd, a good friend and above all an icon of simplicity.

Abp. Jala’s Funeral will be on Wednesday, 23 October, 2019
Bangalore 18 October 2019 (CCBI): The funeral of Most Rev. Dominic Jala SDB (68) will be on Wednesday, 23 October 2019. The funeral Holy Mass will held at Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, Shillong at 1pm and the mortal remains will laid rest at the Cathedral campus.
The Archbishop Jala passed away following a car accident at Colusa County, Oakland in California, USA on Thursday 10 October, 2019 around 2.20 pm o (October 11 as per Indian standard time).
The Colusa County Coroner, USA has completed the autopsy on Wednesday 16 October 2019 and the Archbishop’s body has been transferred to McNary-Moore Funeral Home in Colusa. After completing all legal formalities the body will be transferred to India and it will arrive on Sunday 20 October, 2019 about 2pm.
The Archbishop had left Shillong for Rome on 17 September 2019 for the Ad Limina visit and from Rome to USA to attend a meeting of the International Commission for English in the Liturgy (ICEL).
Archbishop Jala is a priest for 41 years and a Bishop for 19 years. He was the Chairman of the CCBI Commission for Liturgy from 2015 onwards and the member of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL).
